When you think of fashion mobile phones, the one thing that comes to mind is a slim and svelte handset. Not to some people or mobile phone makers. Slim is out, fat is in. Korean mobile phone giant Samsung and the Italian haute couture house of Giorgio Armani have teamed to dress-up the bulky Omni Pro B7210 into a fashion powerhouse that is both humongous and heavy - the Samsung Giorgio Armani (B7620). But for a fashion phone, the B8620 can lay claim to the world's more powerful fashion phone accessory.

Holding one conjures images of a powerful mafia overweight Don taking out an equally hefty mobile phone as he emerges from a bullet-proof limo. Either that or you see a plump lady parading the catwalk with extra-large Armani dress. But setting the size the heft aside, there's no let up to the high tech wizardry that Samsung as poured into both the Omnia Pro and the B7620 Armani models.

Remarkable Upgrades

Anyone who uses the Omnia Pro B7610 smartphone will immediately recognize its Armani cousin as its mirror clone dressed up to look arguably better. Both are housed in a full-QWERTY slider touchscreen form with a 3.5" AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display and a slide-out tactile keyboard. What immediately distinguishes the Armani model apart form its gold body is the titling display as it gets fully slid out, facilitating typing on the keyboard or watching a video. In addition, the Armani handset gets a more generous 8 GB of internal memory, up from the 1GB in the more pedestrian Omnia Pro.

Common Features with the Omnia Pro

Other than that, the two are identical twins for the better part of their feature set. The more ostentatious Samsung Giorgio Armani (B7620) is similarly a quad band GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz on the 2G network and a Tri band UMTS 900/1900/2100 on 3G with HSPA data connectivity for no-wait internet surfing and downloading.

It measures a hefty 118.5 x 58.3 x 16.4 mm and weighs a heavy 164 grams that's typical of most other QWERTY slider touchscreens out there. Underneath all that is a Samsung S3C6410 processor clocked at 800 MHz processor with a dedicated graphics processing engine.

It has the same 3.5" AMOLED resistive touchscreen with Wide-VGA resolution that could support 16million colors but its Windows Mobile 6.2 can only support 64k. An accelerometer is standard for auto rotate between portrait and landscape display with a turn-face-down action to cancel functions or mute sounds.

There's the popular Samsung TouchWiz 2.0 UI sitting on the OS and featuring a novel Work & Leisure mode key that can toggle between your personal and corporate identities for a dual homescreen customization. Both handsets sport a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus, dual LED flash and VGA video recording at 30 fps. Wireless data connectivity is supported by Bluetooth 2.0 and Wi-Fi 802/11 b/g. There's microUSB, Bluetooth A2DP support, stereo FM radio with RDS, GPS/A-GPS receiver and TV out.

Conclusion

Samsung B7629 is a landmark fashion phone that shatters all expectations about what a fashion phone is. It is no less powerful as the Omnia Pro and it รข,¤700 price tag shouldn't bother those who can afford to own an Armani suit.
